Five Steps to Choosing a Qualified Mediator
1. Decide what you want from the mediator and the mediation process – goals, mediator role, strengths/weaknesses
2. Get a list of mediators – word of mouth, written lists, referral services, OMA web site (or other state websites)
3. Look over mediator’s written qualifications – fees, education, experience, specialties, professional membership, ethical standards
4. Interview mediators  – mediation approach, orientation session, logistics, confidentiality
5. Evaluate information and make decision – respectful, neutral, skilled, time frame, affordable
