It’s really hard when our co-workers shoot down our ideas! In fact, it can sometimes feel like a punch in the gut. Our knee jerk reaction is to get defensive and self protective, which quickly kills any exchange of fresh ideas. So, the next time you make a proposal and the response is something like, “No way! That’ll never work!”, take a breath…or two, then evenly respond, “OK, what will work?” Not only do you turn their negative reaction into a positive flow of creative energy, you keep the situation from spiraling into a useless boxing match of words.
